About

The Seattle+10 Organizing Committee is an ad-hoc group of activists and organizations that have come together to mobilize and inspire citizens and civil society to carry forward the lessons and energy of Seattle 1999, when we successfully shut-down the WTO.

We are coordinating a Week of Action (Nov 27 – Dec. 5) on the 10th anniversary of the WTO protests (November 30th) and in advance of the UN Climate Change conference in Copenhagen (opening on Dec 7th).

This is envisioned as a “big tent” week of events.  It will be a time to highlight the connections between different progressive issues, and strengthen relationships between people working on those issues.  The WTO protests famously brought together “Teamsters and Turtles.”  We hope to use the anniversary of that historic alliance to work together again.

This is also an opportunity to reach out to neighbors and educate them on the importance of organizing and activism.  The Seattle protestors helped alter the course of global trade policy.  Seattle+10 is a time to celebrate our victories, and reinforce the message that public engagement and grassroots resistance makes a real difference.

Participants in Seattle+10 organizing committee include the Community Alliance for Global Justice, the Washington Fair Trade Coalition, Yes! Magazine, Reclaim the Media, and many other interested groups and individuals.
